Tux Toolkit

About This Blog

Welcome to Tux Toolkit - a blog dedicated to building a workstation for the individual.

The why?

We all need to use computers, everyday and for a hundred different things, and yet very few people take the time to configure their PC to suite their lifestyle. There are so many resources out there, but they often do too much, or are too complicated to use, when really, with just a little bit of know-how, all you need is built into the system.

Unix based operating systems and particularly GNU/Linux and BSD are uniquely capable of being configured to fit around any workflow and make using your computer a joy and putting you in that ever coveted flow state.

This blog explores the world of Linux and aims to provide the tools and the knowledge to take control of your operating system and build an environment that truly works for you.

What You'll Find Here

  • Shell scripting - The unsung powerhouse of unix systems and the key to unlocking your potential
  • Programming languages - Strengths, weaknesses, quirks, and more
  • Personal servers - In my opinion nothing is more liberating than being in control of your data and your software. Building and managing your own personal server is one of the most rewarding experiences.
  • Software - Reviews and tutorials on software for improving your life and your work
  • Web development - My personal area of expertise and something I have a lot of opinions on
  • AI - In this ever changing landscape of AI technology how far can it go?

If you've ever seen someone with a highly customised PC and thought "I wish I could have that, but for me" then this is the place for you. This blog will show you what can be done, but it gives you a deeper understanding so you can change things to fit your preferences. No git repos or packages to install, this is very much a do-it-yourself kind of blog.

About Me (Chris)

Chris confused at a computer

I've been a developer for over 10 years and lover of all things open source since the beginning. I love configuring my own PC possibly to a fault. My wife thinks I'm crazy and is scared of my computer but it works for me.

I'm primarily a web developer working with Laravel and Vue, but I love learning and experimenting with any language that I can find.

I want to share my passion for code and computers, as well as keep a record of all the amazing tools and languages that are out there.
